Faith Lutheran Church

Roanoke, Indiana

About Us

In 1995 a group of Lutheran Christians recognized the need for a church in Roanoke, Indiana. With the blessing of the Indiana District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LC-MS), this group began preparing for their first worship service at Roanoke Memorial Funeral Home.

Hymnals were purchased and donated from sister congregations, a table served as our altar with linens loaned to Faith by Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian, the paraments were donated by Faith Lutheran Church in Churubusco, the communion ware came from Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Lake, and the wooden cross used on the altar for that first service was provided by Virginia Moore.

Faith's first service was held on the Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany, February 4, 1996. Pastor William Brege presided over the Divine Service at 11:15 am after presiding over the worship services at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian. Pastor Brege supplied the bulletin inserts from his congregation which contained the readings for that Sunday's service. There were 20 communicants and 15 souls in attendance for the service that day.

Faith's charter service was held on June 30, 1996. Serving us that day were the Pastors: Daniel Brege of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble as preacher, Daniel Dahling of Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim as liturgist, and William Brege of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ossian as lector.

Since then Faith has built and dedicated her first church building on October 31, 1999 and gone on to build and dedicate her second church building on November 24, 2013.

Faith has been served by the Reverends: Chad Trouten 1996-1999, Daniel Coffey 2001-2005, Ralph Sielaff 2006, and Shayne Jonker 2009-present.

Faith is a congregation that is united in confession and practice, and trusts her Lord's sustenance and preservation of faith by means of His promised grace in His Holy Word and Sacraments of Baptism and His Holy Supper, and was formed for the purpose of disseminating the Gospel of Jesus Christ to His people at Faith and the surrounding community. In this, we bind ourselves to the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God as the rule and norm of our faith and practice, and we hold dear and confess that The Book of Concord of the Evangelical Lutheran Church is true and unadulterated statement and exposition of the Word of God, and hold our membership in the Indiana District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
